Mom and baby killed in broad-daylight, Conn. drive-by shooting: ‘Absolutely horrible’

A 4-month-old baby was gunned down alongside his young mom in a broad-daylight drive-by shooting in Hartford, Conn. 

Little Messiah Diaz was inside a vehicle with his 20-year-old mom Jessica Mercado and an unidentified man around 3 p.m. Tuesday when another car pulled up and someone opened fire, according to cops.

All three were dropped off at a local hospital with gunshot wounds.

The mom and baby died from their injuries while the 20-year-old man is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Hartford Courant.

“Horrible, absolutely horrible. It’s all I can say about that,” Lt. Aaron Boisvert told NBC Connecticut.

The motive behind the shooting was not immediately clear and it was not clear who was the intended target. It is being investigated as a double homicide, according to police.
