A grandmother heroically saved her seven-year-old granddaughter from being hit by a speeding driver in Massachusetts by pushing her out of the way.

Louise Ward, 69, of Stoneham, and her granddaughter Riley were crossing the street around 8:45pm on Saturday with the family dog when she noticed a car plowing toward them.

Screaming, she pushed the little girl and the dog to safety before she was hit by the silver car, which fled the scene, according to WCVB

'She's out for a night walk with her granddaughter and their dog and someone just runs them down in the sidewalk and doesn't care,' her daughter, Erin Dirks, told WCVB.

'I've heard the audio recording of the incident. You know that you've hit somebody.'

Surveillance footage shows the moment the grandmother and granddaughter were quickly crossing the road as the silver car quickly comes their way, hitting Ward in the crosswalk.

Riley is now crediting her grandmother for saving her and the dog's life.

'She pushed me so I could get back to where the cars couldn't hit me on the path,' she told WCVB. 'I didn't get hit, but my nana did.'

After the hit-and-run, Riley began screaming and raising her hands for help until someone 'pulled over and helped me,' she told the outlet.

Ward was taken to the hospital with multiple bone fractures, but will make a full recovery.

Dirks is now encouraging anyone with information on the driver to come forward or for them to turn themselves in.

'Look inside and just really reflect and take the opportunity to do the right thing now. Turn yourself in. You are going to be found. There's footage everywhere,' she told WCVB.

Detective Sergeant Chris Dalis told DailyMail.com that 'still reviewing video from surrounding streets/homes and businesses but haven’t had any luck so far' and there is 'no new info unfortunately.'
