Monster Hunter Wilds players are demanding refunds after Capcom made its KFC collaboration charms free worldwide months after they were originally tied to paid meals in Japan.
The Monster Hunter Wilds x KFC Japan crossover first launched in late 2025, giving players access to two special Felyne weapon pendants through limited-time collaboration meals. The promotion ran at KFC locations in Japan from November 19 to December 16, with meal sets priced from ¥1,350 and upgraded sticker versions priced at ¥1,700.
The two main rewards were the KFC Colonel Felyne charm, which dresses a Felyne like Colonel Sanders, and the KFC Bucket Felyne charm, which places the character inside a KFC chicken bucket. The items are now listed as free DLC on platforms including Steam and PlayStation.
The official Monster Hunter Wilds Japan account announced that the two KFC charms, previously available through the collaboration, had started general distribution.
The translated announcement reads: “KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN collaboration. The two types of charms that were available early have now started general distribution.”
It then listed the two items as additional charms, Colonel Ailou and Barrel Ailou, and told players to download them from their platform’s store.
The move is good news for players who missed the original Japan-only promotion, especially those outside the country. However, some fans who bought the meals specifically for the charms are not happy that the items are now available to everyone for free.
Players say the rare KFC items no longer feel special
Several Japanese players pushed back in replies to the announcement, arguing that people who paid for the collaboration were left with little reason to have done so.
はいでた、31の時も皆騒いでたのに今回もやるんですね。
俺は買ってないからいいけど、必死にやってるお店とか探してまで購入してくれた人皆損なんで返金してやってね。

One player wrote, “Huh? You went and bought it just to hand it out to everyone? What the heck, the person who bought it ends up at a loss, right?”
Another added: “Not again!!!! If you’re gonna distribute it later, tell me in advance!”
A third player said they had been using the charm since the collaboration and paid ¥1,350 to get it, but argued Capcom “could make it a paid feature or something” if it planned to release it later. They added that the charm “doesn’t feel special anymore.”
Not every response was negative, though. One user said the same thing happened with a previous promotion and argued players who went out of their way to track the items down were the ones who “lost out.”
The KFC charms can now be claimed for free through the Monster Hunter Wilds DLC pages on supported platforms, then applied from the Appearance Menu in a tent. Steam’s listing notes that players may need to update to the latest version of the game to use the content.
