A Los Angeles DJ is demanding answers after his beloved 2-year-old Bernese Mountain he dubbed “the most friendly dog on the planet” allegedly died while in the care of a trainer and boarding facility.
Andrew Fedyk shared the heartbreaking account in an Instagram post, saying he and his wife had recently welcomed a baby and decided to enroll their two dogs in a roughly four-week “board and train” program focused on leash and behavioral training.
The couple had researched trainers online and ultimately selected a Studio City operation that appeared to have favorable Yelp reviews, according to Fedyk. After meeting with the trainer several times, they felt comfortable leaving their dogs in his care.
They paid $10,000 for the two Bernese Mountain dogs to participate in the program.
But just 48 hours after dropping off the dogs, Fedyk said he received devastating news: Dunkin, his 2-year-old dog, had died.
“He was apparently at the park with them early and they decided it was too hot, so they were driving them to a kennel in Hollywood to board them,” he told KTLA. “They never communicated that to me. And on the way in the car, apparently, Dunkin passed away.”
Fedyk said he was furious and left with questions about what happened to Dunkin. He also said staff told him the dog was never taken to a veterinarian during the incident.
The grieving owner said he plans to have Dunkin undergo an autopsy in an effort to determine what caused his death.
“He was my best friend,” he wrote on an instagram post. “He was hands down the most friendly dog on the planet. We miss him so much.”
Fedyk said he decided to publicly share the experience as a warning to other pet owners, urging them to thoroughly vet boarding facilities, trainers and the people entrusted with their animals.
He did not identify the name of the trainer or the company involved.
The boarding facility has not been publicly identified.
