A 17-year-old mother and her newborn baby were killed after they were ejected from their vehicle during a two-car crash in Texas

Alizae Nicole Rangel and her 13-day-old son Aziel Angel Rangel were on their way to meet the baby's family for the first time when the collision occurred on June 4.

The crash, which also injured four others, took place after Rangel failed to yield to an oncoming truck while attempting to make a left turn on Highway 385 in Ector County, investigators said.

Rangel was traveling south in a 2024 Chevrolet Malibu when she attempted to make the turn just as a 2022 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck was traveling northbound.

The truck struck the passenger side of the sedan and Rangel and her child were flung from their vehicle. They were later pronounced dead at the scene.

Rangel's mother, Salina Marie Franco, was also in the car and sustained serious injuries. She was transported to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa for surgery.

None of the occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time, investigators said.

The pickup truck was driven by Bianca Marie Rojo and contained two passengers, all of whom were buckled up.

The three occupants were transported to Medical Center Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Rangel had recently returned to the Midland-Odessa area from Mississippi so that relatives and loved ones could meet the newborn.

Franco shared an update on social media which said that her surgeries had gone to plan.

'The physical pain isn’t nothing compared to the heartbreak I am feeling from losing my one and only baby girl and my grandbaby,' she wrote on Facebook.

'My precious precious little sweet grandbaby. My heart is crushed I can’t deal mentally.'

According to the mother and son's obituary, Aziel had a large impact on his family in the small time they shared.

'Though his time with us was brief, he brought immense joy and touched every heart in our family,' the obituary read.

'He was so loved by all of his cousins and tias. He will forever be our little Angel, held safely in his mother’s arms.'

She and her son will be buried together at a funeral on June 11.

A friend has since set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for the family which has so far raised $6,000 of its $9,000 goal.
