A stay-at-home mother has landed the £300,000 jackpot on a National Lottery Cashword Bonus scratchcard.

The winner, from Newport in her 50s, has been buying scratchcards ever since they were first introduced in the 1990s.

She said: "It's unreal and exciting, and it's such a relief to have the financial worries out of the way."

The life-changing prize has provided an enormous sense of relief for the Newport resident, lifting the burden of money concerns that had weighed on her.

The lucky mother claimed the top prize available on the popular scratchcard game, operated by Allwyn on behalf of the National Lottery.

Among her plans for the windfall, she intends to pay off her mortgage and help her son purchase a new vehicle.

She also has her eye on treating herself to some fresh towels.

Liz Styles, winners' advisor at Allwyn, the operator of the National Lottery, said: "Congratulations to our lucky Newport winner."
