A bride-to-be revealed plans for her wedding have turned sour after she shunned her pregnant sister's suggestion to host a big gender reveal at the reception.

The woman, 29, from the U.S., took to Reddit to share her excitement at planning her upcoming nuptials with her fiancé - but her sibling's proposal to merge the wedding and gender reveal into a joint occasion has since caused a rift.

Posting anonymously as u/baby_luna_star, the woman detailed her frustration in the popular subbreddit, R/AmITheA*****e, on 7 January.

The woman explained that she and her 31-year-old fiancé had been planning the big day for over a year while her younger sister, 26, is expecting her first child.

She added: 'My sister is one of the Pinterest-loving, gender-reveal-party-enthusiasts.

'She's been planning this big reveal since she found out she was pregnant - I swear her Pinterest boards are a terrifying mix of pink and blue confetti and cake explosions.'

The bride-to-be went on to explain that during a recent family dinner with their parents, she was left stunned after her sister 'dropped the bomb' that she wanted to host the gender reveal at the wedding reception.

She added: 'She even had a plan ready: halfway through reception, she'd cut the cake, and boom, it's either pink or blue inside. She seemed genuinely excited, but I was a bit taken aback.'

Having initially informed her sister that she would mull over the idea, the bride-to-be further discussed the proposition with her fiancé, who immediately opposed it.

She said: 'I want [the wedding] to be about me and my fiancé, not about a baby we didn’t make.

'I politely told her that I didn’t want to include the gender reveal in our wedding festivities. I suggested she have her own party another day, and I’d be more than happy to help plan it or bake the cake or whatever she needed.'

However, the decision didn't fare well with the sister, who resorted to calling the bride-to-be 'selfish,' reiterating that the joint-occasion would mark a 'special family moment.'

The bride-to-be added she has since 'second-guessed' her decision to put her foot down because her parents are 'on the fence' about the idea.

She concluded: 'Was I being too selfish? I mean, weddings are about family too, right? But also? I kind of want this day to be about my fiancé and me, without a side of gender reveal.'

The post has since amassed over 2.3K comments, as fellow Redditors shared their thoughts about the sibling spat - with many assuring the bride-to-be that she's made the right decision, while condemning the sister's actions.

One person wrote, 'So she’s too cheap to throw her own (gag) gender reveal party,' while another said, 'Your wedding is your day, not a backdrop for someone else's announcement.

'A gender reveal can be its own event, but your wedding should be about you and your fiancé. Standing your ground is 100% fair.'

A third commented: 'You seriously need to reevaluate yourself as a person if you want to use someone else's wedding for your own little party.

'That is disgustingly selfish of her. Quite frankly that behavior makes me worried about the type of parent she'll be.'

Meanwhile, one person warned, 'Security needs to know that if she shows up with boxes to turn her away,' as another added, 'Also tell the photographer and videographer to ignore and not record anything to do with a gender reveal.'

Agreeing, another wrote: 'Make sure your wedding venue and caterer know what she’s planning. If they see any cakes that don’t look like yours, they’re to be thrown in the garbage immediately.

'Don’t show anyone what your cake looks like so she can’t copy it. Let your sister and everyone know you’re hiring security and she will be thrown out if she even attempts to do it.'

Finally, one person quipped: 'You forgot to mention the part where she agreed to pay half the cost of the wedding, of course, since it's now a shared party.'
