CV NEWS FEED // The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C has been designated as a special pilgrimage destination during the 2025 Jubilee of Hope.
The decision, made by the Administrative Committee of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), permits faithful Catholics to undertake a pious pilgrimage to the Shrine and obtain a Jubilee Year Indulgence.
According to the papal Decree on the Granting of Indulgences during the Jubilee, pilgrims to the Shrine may obtain an indulgence if they attend Mass at the Basilica or participate in any one of a variety of prayers, liturgies, or sacraments, including the Rosary, Eucharistic adoration, the Liturgy of the Hours, and confession.
In a Dec. 16 news release, the President of the USCCB Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio stated that “Visiting the Basilica is a powerful way to take advantage of the grace of the Jubilee and to be filled with the hope that flows from the embrace of our Mother.”
The rector of the Basilica, Monsignor Walter Rossi, said that he is “grateful” for the privilege of operating as a special pilgrimage site during the Jubilee.
“This honor will provide a moment of grace for all ‘Pilgrims of Hope’ during the Jubilee Year and will be especially beneficial to those who are unable to travel to Rome to pass through the Holy Doors and obtain the Jubilee Indulgence,” he stated in the news release.
According to the news release, the Basilica is open every day in 2025 and offers five hours confession daily, four Masses weekdays and Saturdays, and seven Sunday Masses.
