And the AI takeover continues.
I think we’d all agree that the NBA’s current product is absolute trash. I mean, damn, I’ve barely watched any of the playoffs and haven’t missed it at all. With that being said, league commissioner Adam Silver thinks he has the solution: artificial intelligence.
Making an appearance Wednesday on “The Pat McAfee Show,” it was confirmed by Silver that the NBA is shifting to automation in their refereeing, specifically for replay calls that consistently slow down games in the postseason.
Or in other words, flopping. (RELATED: Giants’ Jaxson Dart Reportedly Subjected To Struggle Session After Supporting Trump At Rally)
“I think in terms of replay, we’re going to get to the point fairly quickly where, for example, on out-of-bounds plays … those kinds of calls will become automatic,” said Silver while speaking with McAfee.
“We’re going to move to a system like that where that whole category of calls will be automated. Those calls will be handled by an AI automated system with cameras lined around the court. It’ll be instantaneous and automatic.”
Silver is hoping that the AI-automation will result in replay delays being eliminated.

I admit that artificial intelligence has been a success in Major League Baseball when it comes to their Automated Ball-Strike Challenge System, and an automated system would most likely be a success in the NBA, but I can’t even lie …
I’m absolutely terrified of an AI takeover, and with each passing day, sports or not, it gets closer and closer to being a reality. Scary.
