A nightmare neighbour smacked a woman with a gold club after a fight broke out over a social media dispute.

Caitlin Lees, 24, from Plains in North Lanarkshire, Scotland, admitted to assaulting the woman outside her home on Affric Avenue on February 21.

The incident occurred after the pair had exchanged messages on social media, leading to a confrontation at Lees' property.

Airdrie Sheriff Court heard that when the victim arrived at Lees' home, she was behaving in an aggressive manner.

Defence lawyer John Paul Gallacher told the court that his client's reaction to the other woman's aggression had been "unacceptable".

The court heard that Lees has a "limited" criminal record and has been affected by family bereavements in recent years.

Sheriff Tony McGlennan agreed to impose a £380 fine, noting that the charge had been "much reduced".

In his remarks to Lees, the Sheriff stated: "It seems at best unwise for the victim to have gone to your house, but it's never the proper course to take matters into your own hands."
