New Jersey Lieutenant Governor Resigns After Ethics Probe

New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill on Friday announced that Lt. Gov. Dale Caldwell resigned from his position amid allegations in an ethics report that claimed he violated state sexual harassment policies.

In a video announcement, the Democratic governor announced that she accepted Caldwell’s resignation and said the report found he allegedly violated state policy and engaged in sexual harassment.

A day earlier, Sherrill said that he “engaged in serious, repeated violations of state policy and failed to uphold the responsibilities of his office” and called for his resignation.

“We all have a duty to follow our state ethics and harassment policy and our Code of Conduct. Anyone who violates these will be held accountable,” she said.

A lawyer for Caldwell told Politico on Thursday that he did nothing wrong and that the ethics investigation was “unnecessarily protracted and one-sided.”
