Allegations that Congressman Max Miller abused his ex-wife, claims first revealed by the Daily Mail and which he denies, have put the Trump-endorsed Ohio Republican's safe seat in jeopardy.
A new poll of 635 likely voters, conducted by Tavern Research concluded that Democrat Brian Poindexter is leading Miller 54 percent to 46 percent in Ohio's 7th District. This is a district Donald Trump carried by eleven points just two years ago.
Miller's ex-wife, Emily Moreno, has accused him in court filings of holding a gun to her head, throwing her against a wall and dousing her with hot water, all of which Miller denies.
The scandal has fully broken through to voters with 70 percent of respondents saying they've seen, read or heard something about Miller in the past week.
The vast majority of voters, 65 percent, say the news left them feeling more negative about him.
Asked about a generic congressional matchup, voters split evenly at 50-50, but Poindexter's lead grows to eight points the moment the candidates are named.
Miller's eroding support comes as a growing number of Republican senators call on him to resign, including both of Ohio's own: his former father-in-law, Bernie Moreno, and Jon Husted.
But Republican leadership is falling in line behind Miller after the deadline to replace him on the ballot passed over the weekend. RNC Chairman Joe Gruters said the party will fund his re-election campaign despite the domestic violence allegations.

'We’re gonna support our nominees,' Gruters said. 'We need to make sure we hold the majorities. Max, I’m sure, is on that side.'
Mike Johnson has also refused to call on him to resign despite an ongoing House Ethics Committee Investigation over whether Miller engaged in 'domestic violence and abuse or illegal drug use.'
The announcement came hours after Miller said he would ask the panel to investigate him, an unusual maneuver he cast as a chance to clear his name, insisting he had 'absolutely nothing to hide.'
Central to the drug use allegations are photographs obtained by the Daily Mail, including an image appearing to show a syringe inside the bedroom of the home Miller shared with his ex-wife, which a source said was taken by Emily Moreno herself.
The pictures dovetail with audio recordings Miller released in his bid to clear his name, in which Moreno is heard telling him: 'First it was weed, then I found needles next to your bed.'
Moreno says in the exchange that she photographed what she found, while Miller flatly denies in the recording ever having a needle near his bed, a claim the images appear to contradict.
The photographs do not on their own prove illegal drug use, establishing neither what the syringe contained nor whose it was, and Miller has insisted the syringes were part of testosterone replacement therapy.
Miller previously won his House seat in 2024 by nearly 15 points against Democratic challenger Matthew Diemer.
