The NFL has launched an investigation after Cincinnati Bengals running back Chase Brown had a drink poured on him by a fan after the win over the Carolina Panthers.

The Bengals defeated the Panthers 34-24 on Sunday to claim their first win of the season with Brown scoring two touchdowns.

But, as he left the field at Bank of America Stadium, footage captured the moment a clear liquid was poured on his head from the stands above.

Brown, 24, did not react or confront the fan as he continued to walk back to the visitor's locker room. Cincinnati tight end Mike Gesicki also looked back as the incident unfolded but looked unfazed.

The NFL has now confirmed they are investigating in a bid to find the culprit.

Brown did not react to being hit with the liquid and the NFL has now launched an investigation

'We'll see if we can identify the person and then we'll go from there,' Michael Thomas of the NFL Players Association told ESPN on Monday.

'But that should never happen to a player.'

Brown did speak on the incident after the game and admitted he was shocked when he saw the footage.

'I was walking in [and] I felt the liquid or whatever, and then when I saw the video back, I'm like, 'Damn, that's really what happened,'' Brown said after the game.

'Please don't pour drinks on us. I mean, nobody wants that.'

Any NFL fan who is found guilty of engaging in unruly conduct could potentially be handed a lifetime ban.

Sunday's dump of liquid on Brown is not the first time the Panthers have been wrapped up in a similar incident.

Back in January, Carolina's owner David Tepper was seen throwing a drink on a Jacksonville Jaguars fan from his luxury suite.

The Billionaire was fined and has since apologized.

No punishment for the Panthers or the individual fan has been announced as of Wednesday morning.
