Legendary NFL kicker Adam Vinatieri felt the need to apologize for some of the jokes he made during his speech after being enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

On Saturday, Vinatieri was given his gold jacket and unveiled the bronze bust of his head which will stand in Canton, Ohio for years to come.

But rather than give a speech of the more commonly reflective type, Vinatieri made a few jokes deemed by some to be NSFW.

These included jabs at his former Patriots head coach Bill Belichick - as well as his girlfriend, Jordon Hudson - and former Colts punter and Vinatieri's placeholder Pat McAfee.

During a guest segment on 'The Dan Patrick Show' on Monday, Vinatieri offered an olive branch for those offended.

'I wanted it to start sentimental, I wanted to make people laugh, and then I wanted to end it with a bang,' Vinatieri said on the show.

When giving his speech, Vinatieri made some crude jokes about former teammates and coaches, including his former Colts place holder, Pat McAfee

He also took aim at former Patriots coach, Bill Belichick and his girlfriend Jordon Hudson

'So hopefully I accomplished that. But if people got offended or thought it was inappropriate, I apologize to you guys.'

Vinatieri stepped up to the podium, wearing his new gold jacket - as well as a tie belonging to late Colts owner Jim Irsay, which was given to him by Irsay's daughters - and delivered the most humorous speech of the day.

His biggest shot was aimed at his former coach, Belichick: 'Unfortunately, Bill couldn't make it here today,' Vinatieri said Saturday during his speech.

'There's a lot going on at UNC right now,' he added, just days after UNC football general manager Michael Lombardi was placed on administrative leave following a human resources complaint.

Vinatieri continued: 'He might be on a recruiting trip right now looking for the next Lawrence Taylor. I thought it was because training camp had already started. But in truth, it's because he's judging his girlfriend's cheerleading competition.'

The joke led to laughs and shock among the crowd as an unapologetic Vinatieri continued through his speech without delay, calling Belichick the greatest coach of all time.

'Thank you for demanding excellence every single day,' Vinatieri said of Belichick. 'Your preparation, discipline and attention to detail shaped far more than my football career.'

Belichick wasn't the only victim of Vinatieri's jabs. He also took a shot at Pat McAfee, the former Colts punter who was Vinatieri's place holder for field goals.

Vinatieri is one of just three full-time place kickers to be enshrined in Canton

In a rather explicit jab, Vinatieri joked that McAfee is 'the only person who enjoyed holding my balls more than my wife.'

The kicker also mocked Peyton Manning, thanking the quarterback for 'generously donating your forehead' to be used as a teleprompter.

'A gigantic forehead means a big brain, and your football IQ is unmatched, buddy,' Vinatieri said of Manning.

'The way you managed the offense, the team, everything in the entire organization, was incredible. Your leadership led this team to greatness.'

Vinatieri became the third placekicker to be enshrined in the Hall of Fame, joining Jan Stenerud and Morten Andersen.
