A Nintendo Direct clip has gone viral after a motion control demonstration inspired a flood of suggestive memes on social media.

Motion controls aren’t kind when it comes to making you look like a complete fool in front of your friends and family. However, usually when you’re playing WarioWare: Move It! or Nintendo Switch Sports, you’re not in front of a global audience. (And good, that’s a good thing too, as no one needs to see my awful Just Dance moves!).

This was not the case for Senior Nintendo executive Yoshiaki Koizumi, who has found himself in the spotlight after clips of him enthusiastically playing a motion-controlled thumb wrestling minigame went viral.

Nintendo motion control demo goes viral

The June 9 Nintendo Direct featured a lot of great games, with Xenoblade Genesis, Kingdom Hearts 4, The Duskbloods, and the long-rumored Ocarina of Time remake all leading the show.

Despite this, another game quickly caught viewers’ attention as well, with fans focusing more on the motion-control demonstration. During the Direct, Nintendo’s senior executive officer Yoshiaki Koizumi gave an in-person demonstration of Nintendo Switch Sports Resort.

Just like previous Wii Sports titles, the Switch 2 sequel has players competing in motion-controlled sports games like table tennis, archery, and skateboarding using the Joy-Cons motion controls.

One of the main highlights is the new thumbwrestling minigame, which has you competing against a bot or a friend in all-out thumb battles. If you get caught, you’ll need to shake the Joy-Con from side to side to break free.

Koizumi was keen to demonstrate how you’d go about breaking free from the scenario, and as you can imagine, it didn’t take Nintendo fans long to turn his frantic Joy-Con gestures and smiling face into suggestive reaction memes.

One example has paired his motion control demo with Stellar Blade: Blood Rain’s new protagonist reveal, Ace Combat 8’s viral pink-haired pilot, and the Xenoblade 2 bathouse scene. There’s even a clip that shows him schooling enemies in Sega’s Sonic Frontiers, just in case you were curious how far this rabbit hole goes.

It was certainly a memorable Nintendo Direct, and Koizumi’s Nintendo Switch Sports Resort showcase has become the source of one of the event’s biggest memes.
