Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order date revealed and it’s sooner than you think

Best Buy has just revealed when the Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders will go live, and it’s happening sooner than you think.

After years of waiting, Nintendo finally unveiled the Switch 2 back on January 16, 2025, and fans have anxiously waited for more information about the next-gen hybrid console.

The Japanese company is set to reveal more about the Switch 2 during a Nintendo Direct on April 2, 2025, including hardware specs, launch date, and when fans can pre-order the console.

On Thursday, March 27, Best Buy published a blog about the upcoming Switch 2 announcement and revealed when exactly fans will be able to purchase the long-awaited console.

“Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 will officially open on April 2nd at Best Buy Canada, giving you the chance to secure your Nintendo Switch 2 early,” reads the blog.

We’ll have to wait for the Direct to find out exact pricing and release dates, but it’s clear that as soon as the event is over – Nintendo fans will be able to secure their next-gen console through Best Buy.

While we don’t know a lot about the Switch 2’s internals, the console’s January reveal showed some pretty massive changes to the hardware.

It features a bigger screen and joycons and has changed how the controllers attach to the console itself. Instead of using the existing rail system, Nintendo has swapped to a magnetic attachment option that seemingly makes them less prone to breaking.

Nintendo has added an optical sensor to the side of the joycons as well, and it showed during the reveal trailer how they may be used as a mouse in some games. We’ll have to wait to see exactly how it’s implemented, but it could lead to a revival of Mario Paint.
