CV NEWS FEED // Two North Dakota bishops are encouraging parishioners to support the establishment of Education Savings Accounts in the state, which would enable parents to have more flexibility in choosing schools for their children.
Bishop David Kagan of Bismarck and Bishop John Folda of Fargo signed the March 28 letter in support of Senate Bill 2400 and House Bill 1540, both of which have passed in their chambers.
The bills propose that taxpayer dollars fund a statewide education savings account program, which would provide parents with more resources for education services including private school tuition, online school tuition, educational camps, mental health services, and resources for disabled students.
The bishops stated that parents, as primary educators of their children, should have the opportunity to choose the best education for their children.
“These two bills would give many parents greater freedom to make choices that best suit their children’s educational needs, without being hampered by financial constraints,” the bishops wrote. “They do not divert money from public schools, do not hurt rural schools, and would be a great help to many families across the state of North Dakota.”
The letter asked all parishioners, even those who would not personally benefit from the bills, to contact their legislators in support of the legislation.
