1789 – The first Thanksgiving is proclaimed by George Washington.

1863 – President Abraham Lincoln declares Thanksgiving Day will be celebrated on the Last Thursday in November.

1863 - The Union Army defeats the Confederate Army at the Battle of Chattanooga, Tennessee.

1894: The Baltimore Orioles and the New York Giants play their first game in the World Series.

1912 – The Battle of Coyotepe Hill is won by U.S. forces after defeating Nicaraguan rebels.

1919 – Adolfo Luque, Cincinnati Reds pitcher, becomes the first Latin American player to play in a World Series.

1938 - The United States Senate places restrictions on U.S. involvement in foreign wars by passing the Neutrality Act of 1938. The Act was a response to the growing tensions in Europe.

1949 –The first black-owned radio station, WERD, opens in Atlanta.

1957 – A court decision by The California State Superior Court rules the book Howl and Other Poems is not obscene.
