Ohio Rep. Marcy Kaptur Rushed To Hospital After Suffering From Hit-And-Run On Way To Church

Democratic Ohio Rep. Marcy Kaptur was injured during a hit-and-run on her way to a church service Sunday, according to a statement from the congresswoman.

“Congresswoman Kaptur is thankful for the quick actions of first responders from Toledo Police and Fire Departments who arrived promptly on scene, and the medical professionals helping to take care of those involved in the crash,” the statement reads.

The statement added that Kaptur is looking forward to additional information from police as the investigation into the accident continues.

Toledo police said the collision was a “hit-skip,” meaning the at-fault driver fled the scene, while a witness told a local station the driver was picked up by another vehicle just after the crash, the Raw Story reported.

Investigators reported “significant” progress in identifying the person responsible by the end of Sunday, with the chief of police adding that the department was committed to holding the responsible party accountable.

Another unidentified person was also hospitalized, according to the Columbus Dispatch.

Kaptur’s Republican challenger for her seat in November, Derek Merrin, said he was saddened to hear of the accident and asked people to join him in “praying for her speedy recovery and all those injured in the crash.”

Ohio’s Republican senator, Jon Husted, said he and his wife are also praying for Kaptur’s speedy recovery and that they hope the person responsible for the collision is “apprehended quickly and held accountable.”

The statement from Kaptur, the longest-serving congresswoman in U.S. history, also said she was grateful for the “hundreds of constituents who have reached out” and that she will be returning to her full schedule soon.
