JOHOR - More than 5,000 people have been evacuated from their homes and placed at temporary relief centres (PPS) across Johor.
The Johor Disaster Management Committee said that as of 10pm on March 20, a total of 5,092 individuals from 1,284 families had been placed at 79 PPS in five flood-affected districts.
“Johor Bahru still has the highest number of evacuees, with 1,288 people, slightly more than Kota Tinggi, which has 1,233 evacuees.
“The other affected districts are Pontian (913), Kulai (878) and Kluang (780),” it said in a statement.
The evacuation centre with the highest number of evacuees is located at SMK Senai in Kulai, accommodating 441 individuals, followed by SK Bukit Mutiara in Johor Baru with 412 evacuees.
Nine river monitoring stations have also recorded water levels at a dangerous level. These include Sungai Lenik, Sungai Kahang, Sungai Siam, Sungai Siku, Sungai Pulai, Sungai Skudai, Parit Keliling, Sungai Tiram and Sungai Paya Dato.
Two roads in Kota Tinggi—Jalan Lukut Cina and Jalan Mawai Lama—have also been closed to all vehicles due to flooding. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
