The Overwatch 2 community is demanding nerfs to one dominant tank as the mid-season 15 patch failed to address the strongest heroes.
Overwatch 2’s Hero Perks patch has been a smashing success for the most part, drawing in players and adding the spark the game needed to compete with its competitors. However, many players aren’t satisfied with how Blizzard is opting to handle balance with this new mechanic.
Many players have already expressed dissatisfaction at Blizzard’s failure to tone down some of the most oppressive DPS characters. However, players are also overwhelmed by one tank in particular who is dominating the competitive ladder and “ruining” the Hero Perks patch.
Players say Overwatch 2’s Zarya is too strong
Players levied plenty of criticism at Blizzard’s approach to the mid-season 15 balance patch, which opted to buff weaker Perks instead of toning down oppressive ones. So far, players feel as if this hasn’t accomplished much, and many of the strongest heroes remain at the top.
For tanks, this includes Zarya, who players say is “ruining [the] Perks update.” Zarya’s Perks allow her to gain an insane amount of vertical movement with her Jump-Ups perk, while her Energy Lance allows her to take advantage of her high damage to pierce targets when above 50 energy.
“Zarya, Ana, and Sojourn being left untouched in any way is absurd to me,” wrote one user.
“Zarya killing an entire enemy team solo because of her perks certainly is something to witness,” wrote another.

Zarya is well known for being stronger in solo queue, as coordinated teams are better at tracking her bubbles and collapsing on her when her cooldowns are down. Due to the uncoordinated nature of solo queue, Zarya is naturally stronger and can easily become an unstoppable force.
“Teams still follow the truly fantastic philosophy of ‘DON’T SHOOT THE ZARYA,'” said one player. “…Meaning she can just walk around the map doing whatever.”
One player said Blizzard did not sufficiently buff weaker perks, allowing the stronger heroes to continue reigning supreme. Additionally, many players are accusing Blizzard of favoritism to certain heroes who tend to dominate the meta.

“We’re not even doing the ‘if everyone is OP then no one is’ approach correctly,” stated one player. “There is a very clear level of favoritism and inequality in the perks between heroes. Ana, Tracer, Sojourn, and Zarya are all INSANE.”
For what it’s worth, mid-season patches don’t typically have the same breadth of changes as a full season patch. With Blizzard’s promise to also rotate Perks often, the stronger heroes will likely be toned down while others get to shine.
Meanwhile, Freja is set to release in a brief play test on March 21 until March 24. Freja might just throw a wrench in the game’s current meta, so be sure to test her and sharpen your skills for her official release in Season 16.
