Overwatch ends Stadium mode support after just over a year

Blizzard has confirmed that Overwatch’s Stadium mode will no longer receive new content, as the player count has dwindled compared to other modes.

Stadium launched back in April 2025, before the rebrand, as Overwatch’s biggest new mode in years, introducing a best-of-seven format where players earn currency between rounds to buy upgrades that dramatically change how Heroes play.

The mode quickly attracted attention for its roguelike-inspired mechanics and fresh take on Overwatch’s gameplay, but Blizzard says player numbers have now settled into a much smaller audience than other core modes.

In a new developer blog post, Blizzard revealed that while Stadium still has a dedicated player base, it no longer plans to significantly expand the mode.

As of June 28, the studio said, around 3% of daily players were playing Stadium Ranked, with another 3% in Stadium Unranked. By comparison, Unranked Role Queue accounted for roughly 54% of daily players, while Ranked Role Queue sat at 37%.

The update also showed 6v6 modes continuing to gain traction, with Unranked Open Queue making up around 19% of daily players and Ranked Open Queue reaching 8%.

“Overall, 5v5 has maintained its majority and 6v6 continues to see an increase in popularity,” Blizzard wrote in its developer blog. “Stadium, meanwhile, has settled into a dedicated, smaller audience.”

As a result, Blizzard says the mode will continue receiving seasonal balance changes, competitive rank resets and rewards, but its major content updates are coming to an end.

“With this in mind, while we’ll continue supporting Stadium with seasonal balance updates, rank resets, and rewards, we’re not planning on expanding Stadium with new Heroes or maps,” the developers explained.

Rather than continuing to build out the mode, Blizzard says it’s redirecting the team behind Stadium toward future Overwatch content.
