Padres Get Swept By Rays Following Samad Taylor Dropping Ball Over Fence For Home Run

Pain. Absolute pain.

Taking on the San Diego Padres in a Sunday contest, the Tampa Bay Rays ended up getting a straight-up epic comeback win. Well, for them. In fact, it was potentially the biggest win of the campaign for the Rays in what was a 5-4 extra-inning victory.

Facing a 3-1 deficit in the ninth inning with two outs and a runner on base, and San Diego All-Star closing pitcher Mason Miller on the mound, Tampa Bay right fielder Jonny DeLuca popped a ball that flew all the way to the warning track. Padres left fielder Samad Taylor ended up catching the ball, but his momentum into the Tropicana Field wall caused the baseball to drop out of his glove and over said wall. And funny enough, it almost landed on a buffet table that was loaded up with cookies.

Thinking that Taylor made the final out of the game, DeLuca came to a halt after he rounded first base, and in complete disbelief, raised his arms.

You can’t convince me this sport isn’t purely scripted by the baseball gods just to see how much emotional torment the Padres fan base can endure.

I mean, come on, they ultimately got swept because of a buffet-table home run … cruel and unusual.
