The Hong Kong dancer who was left paralysed after being hit by a giant screen at a concert by popular Cantopop boy band Mirror two years ago was undergoing therapy “like a professional athlete”.
The father of 30-year-old Mo Li Kai-yin, the Reverend Derek Li Shing-lam, said on Saturday night that his son’s muscle strength had “obviously improved” following more than three months of gruelling rehabilitation.
“The heads of the medical team always praised Mo’s performance, saying his training was comparable to, or even harder than, a professional athlete,” Derek Li said.
“Mo has lost all mobility and is currently paralysed in all four limbs, the treatment that he had gone through was beyond what ordinary people could imagine.”
Derek Li said his son had to maintain the flexibility of muscles and joints which he no longer had control over, but Mo had maintained mental resilience by not falling into despair despite the limited progress he had achieved.
Mo had been doing resistance training of upper limbs with the help of stimulators over the past three months, he added.
“His muscles have obviously strengthened, he needed to work on his fingers and upper wrists, but the rest of his upper limbs have maintained good mobility with the help of therapists,” Derek Li said.
