Korean entertainment powerhouse CJ ENM has locked a three-year partnership with the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.

The deal, unveiled as CJ ENM celebrates its 30th anniversary, aims to amplify Korean and Asian filmmakers’ presence in the global film landscape. The partnership kicks off with support for “Director’s Inspiration: Bong Joon Ho,” which opened March 23 at the Los Angeles-based museum.

This exhibition marks a significant milestone as the first museum showcase dedicated to the Oscar-winning director of “Parasite,” featuring over 100 original items including storyboards, research materials, film posters, concept art, creature designs, props and on-set photographs.

The partnership follows an Academy Museum leadership visit to Seoul on March 17, where Amy Homma, director and president of the Academy Museum, and Jenny Galante, chief revenue officer, toured CJ ENM’s facilities including the virtual production Stage at CJ ENM Studio Center in Paju and the four-sided ScreenX theater at CGV Yongsan I-Park Mall.

“Since 1995, we have worked tirelessly for 30 years to promote the value and status of Korean cinema,” a CJ ENM representative stated. “Through this partnership, we hope to contribute to the successful global establishment of Asian creators who possess both distinctive artistry and mass appeal.”

Homma added: “We’re so thankful to Academy Museum trustee Miky Lee and CJ ENM for their support of the Academy Museum and dedication to showcase Korean Cinema in our galleries and programming. ‘Director’s Inspiration: Bong Joon Ho’ will give our visitors insight and a deepened understanding of Bong’s creative processes, and we are excited to continue to share in-depth explorations of Korean stories in the future through this partnership.”

Lee, vice chair of both CJ and the Academy Museum Board, has championed diversity and inclusivity since joining the board of trustees in 2019. Her contributions were recognized with the Pillar Award at the 2022 Academy Museum Gala. In 2022, Lee was recognized as Variety’s International Media Woman of the Year.

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Renzo Piano, is the world’s largest museum dedicated to moviemaking, featuring 50,000 square feet of exhibition spaces across its historic Saban Building and spherical addition.
