The Issue: Senate confirmation hearings for Defense Secretary-designate Pete Hegseth.

Democrats have acted disrespectfully during this confirmation hearing (“Hegseth braves Senate smears,” Jan. 15).

Today’s American military seems to revolve too much around the basis of race and gender identity, and is governed by those who push DEI narratives. Pete Hegseth, if confirmed as Defense secretary, will cure this nonsense and return this nation’s military apparatus to a meritocracy-based war-fighting system.

In a fruitless effort to derail the nomination of Pete Hegseth to be secretary of Defense, Sen. Mazie Hirono went off on one of her wild assaults on anything Republican. Fortunately the public has become wise to this shtick.

If Pete Hegseth is not confirmed as secretary of Defense, then the senators voting against him should be ashamed.

His qualifications and academic record fully make him a great fit for the position, especially because of his many tours in Afghanistan and his record of going to two Ivy League schools. Our country needs Hegseth to run the Defense Department. He has what it takes to get the job done.

The Democrats owe it to America to secure the confirmation of Pete Hegseth. With his nomination, recruitment would be through the roof. Pete Hegseth will keep the peace and America safe because the commander-in-chief demands it.

I feel sorry for Defense Secretary-designate Pete Hegseth. He was grilled by Democrats, praised by Republicans. Why can’t we all just get along?

Sen. Roger Wicker, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, described Pete Hegseth as an “unconventional candidate” to be the next Defense chief.

Having heard that, I’m wondering if Sen. Bill Cassidy, chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, will use those same words when he introduces Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to his committee members.

The Issue: A federal judge ordering Suffolk County to pay $60 million for detaining migrants.

That old familiar phrase from Oliver Twist — that “the law is a ass” — played out last week in Suffolk County when federal Judge William Kuntz ruled that the Suffolk sheriff’s office had violated the “constitutional rights” of illegal immigrants by holding them for deportation (“$60M Bill for NY’s Migrant Madness,” Editorial, Jan. 10).

Attorney General Letitia James had also filed a brief on behalf of the migrants. One would’ve thought that common sense would’ve prevailed, because the immigration law was broken with the initial illegal entry. States’ rights seemed to have trumped that, however.

To prevent future ambiguity, there must be cooperation between ICE, Homeland Security and local authorities. Now Suffolk county has been socked with a $60 million fine, which will no doubt be appealed.

Letitia James is at it again. She supported a lawsuit against Suffolk County because it turns migrants over to ICE. We should begin the impeachment of federal judges who make such crazy rulings. We should also cooperate with ICE. Every one of these Democratic lawmakers and officials should be removed from office, starting with James.
