Graphic images of Lindsay Clancy's injuries from the night she killed her children and then attempted suicide have debunked wild conspiracy theories pushed by internet sleuths.

The former nurse, 36, is on trial for the murders of her three children, Cora, five, Dawson, three, and eight-month-old Callan, at her home in Duxbury, Massachusetts, in 2023.

She strangled her children with exercise bands and then allegedly attempted to kill herself, but her efforts failed and left her paralyzed and in a wheelchair for life.

Clancy has admitted to killing her children but pleaded not guilty to murder by reason of insanity, citing postpartum psychosis, and is seeking to be committed to a state mental health facility rather than prison.

Since the start of the trial last month, social media users have been peddling bizarre theories about the case.

Influencers are posting videos of themselves sticking their heads out of windows to demonstrate how someone could have fallen in an effort to claim Clancy was pushed or thrown out the window.

Other true crime slueths haved recorded themselves recreating the fall with their own windows, to make arguments about the amount of blood or chipped paintwork that would have been present if Clancy jumped out.

Particularly cruel posts have suggested, without evidence, that Patrick Clancy was somehow involved in the murders and framed his ex-wife.

One person argued Clancy was completely limp when she fell out of the window,  suggesting she was drugged and pushed out the window.

What I saw in the Lindsay Clancy trial brought the courtroom to tears

I'm Rachel Sharp, US Crime Desk Editor, and I have been in court covering every day of the Lindsay Clancy trial.

The trial, as many of you will know, is streamed live for the world to see. But not everything is shown to the public; some things are simply too distressing - and these moments have had Lindsay, her parents, the jurors, and members of the media in tears.

Another video suggested that the window was closed on Clancy's neck and back, and that caused her spinal injury that left her paralyzed.

However, bombshell testimony from a forensic pathologist on Tuesday showed how Clancy's injuries were consistent with a suicide attempt.

Dr Elizabeth Laposata, the former chief medical examiner of Rhode Island, created diagrams showing how Clancy jumped out of the window head first, causing blood to go on the shingles on the exterior of the home.

‘It was a free fall dive, head first,’ she said.

She likened Clancy's injuries, a Jefferson fracture, to like a person diving into a swimming pool and hitting their head on the bottom of the pool.

Dr Laposata reviewed Clancy’s injuries, saying that she saw sharp force injuries to Clancy’s wrists and neck.

She has reviewed many injuries from suicide attempts, and went on to say that there were incisions that were consistent with a suicide attempt.

Prosecutors have previously raised doubts about Clancy’s suicide attempt, suggesting that bloodstains on the shingles of the home suggest she clung to the window ledge and dropped rather than jumping out of the window.

In a fiery cross-examination, ADA Jennifer Sprague showed photos of the top of Clancy’s head after her suicide attempt and questioned how she could have no visible head injuries if she landed head-first on the frozen ground.

Dr Laposata stood firmly by her insights.

‘So she fell headfirst onto hard, cold ground and has no visible injuries to the exterior of her head?’

‘Correct,’ she responded.

When the doctor repeatedly tried to provide context or an explanation, Sprague fired back ‘it’s yes or no.’

The prosecution rested its case against Clancy on Monday after using the first three weeks of the trial to argue the killings were intentional and well planned, not the work of someone who had lost control.

On the day of the killings, Clancy asked her husband Patrick Clancy to leave their home to get takeout food and to pick up something at a pharmacy.

Clancy strangled the children with exercise bands, then used multiple methods to try to end her own life.

Patrick, who has since remarried, has publicly forgiven his ex-wife and come out in her defense, describing her as a good mother who became ill.

Both Patrick and Lindsay Clancy have filed separate lawsuits against several of her medical providers alleging that they overmedicated Clancy while treating her for postpartum mental health issues.
