After the success of “Hoppers” from earlier this year and a week before “Toy Story 5” hits theaters, Pixar is revealing its next animated movie, titled “Gatto.” It will star Mark Ruffalo and Laurence Fishburne as two cats prowling around Italy.

Ruffalo will voice Nero, a scrappy black cat, and Fishburne will play Rocco, a ruthless cat mob boss.

“In ‘Gatto,’ after years of maneuvering the canal-ridden, superstitious city of Venice, Italy, Nero begins to question whether he’s lived the right lives,” the logline teases. “Indebted to Rocco, the local feline mob boss, Nero finds himself in a quandary and is forced to forge a truly unexpected friendship that may finally lead him to his purpose—unless Venice gets the better of him first.”

The teaser trailer shows a gang of cats hanging out on a rooftop, with one flicking its claws like a mobster would a knife. The scene moves inside the shadowy building, where Nero and Rocco interrogate a fellow feline about missing tuna. The three cats quickly get distracted, though, by the dangling, bright lightbulb and string hanging above them. They begin pawing at the light and fighting each other over it, until Rocco chomps down and shatters the bulb.

“Gatto” looks to continue Pixar’s hot streak after “Hoppers” and last year’s “Inside Out 2,” which hit nearly $1.7 billion at the global box office. The new film is directed by Enrico Casarosa and produced by Andrea Warren, the filmmaking team behind “Luca.” It will release in theaters March 5, 2027.
