A financial expert believes Pokemon cards would be the perfect “global currency” during an apocalypse, so you might want to consider stocking up.
When the end of days is written about in books, TV shows, and video games, there are plenty of different ways that people envision where things will go when it comes to currency. Some use water as the go-to, Fallout has bottle caps as its iconic currency, while The Last of Us uses meal coupons and actual food in trades.
While the majority of people aren’t thinking about what they’ll need to do to survive in a post-apocalyptic world, plenty of others are, prepping with food stocks and other necessities too.
Well, according to financial expert Peter Levin, Pokemon cards might also be something worth stocking up on, as he sees the value in them as a “global currency” in the end times.

That’s right, the founder of Griffin Gaming Partners, told The Hollywood Reporter that he owns over 500,000 trading cards across different scenes, but Pokemon is the one that would thrive.
“Pokemon is a global phenomenon. I’m absolutely convinced that if the world suffered an apocalypse tomorrow, the following day the global currency would be Pokémon cards,” he said.
“Pokemon cards are beating the S&P 500 by 3,000 percent. Emanating from Japan, it really took hold around the world in the late ’90s and early 2000s. It then had a zenith moment and then a nadir moment, and ever since then, it’s been on a parabolic growth curve. And that really has driven the international market expansion for trading cards.”
Pexels If that were the case, and a Pikachu needed to be sacrificed in order to grab some food, plenty of collectors would be in good standing.
Back in March, Logan Paul said he has spent more than $10 million on Pokemon cards and has a “gangster” collection.
The YouTuber actually sold his PSA 10-graded Pikachu Illustrator for $16.4 million too, smashing a world record.
Pokemon is set to celebrate it’s 30th anniversary on September 16, 2026, with an all-new expansion to the trading card game. One YouTuber managed to get her hands on a box early, but has come under fire for promoting an affiliate link where the price is 12 times the retail cost.
