Pokemon’s long-rumored multi-region MMO is reportedly in development, but fans may have to wait until after Generation 11 to play it.
The latest speculation comes from Pokemon leaker Centro LEAKS, who claimed that Game Freak has been gradually preparing the franchise for a full massively multiplayer online game. The account pointed to online features introduced across recent generations as evidence of a larger plan.
Centro LEAKS claimed that Generation 8 allowed players to see random trainers in certain areas, while Generation 9 expanded online interaction across the entire map. According to the post, Generation 10 has continued that progression with MMO-style quests and cooperative play.
The leaker initially suggested that a full MMORPG could arrive with Generation 11 or late in Generation 10. However, another account replying to the post claimed the MMO would not be Generation 11 itself, but would instead release sometime afterward.

Pokemon could be building on its recent online features
The claims have sparked speculation that the rumored project could be a separate Pokemon game featuring multiple regions, persistent online spaces, and quests designed around cooperation between players.
Neither Game Freak, Nintendo, nor The Pokemon Company has confirmed that a Pokemon MMO is in development. The leak also does not provide a title, release window, platforms, developer details, or an explanation of how the proposed game would connect to the mainline series.
Pokemon has expanded its online features significantly in recent years. Pokemon Sword and Shield introduced visible players in the Wild Area, while Pokemon Scarlet and Violet allowed trainers to explore the open world alongside friends. Both games also included cooperative activities such as raids and group exploration.
The franchise has already moved closer to the MMO concept through third-party projects. Earlier this month, a Hytale modder began turning classic Pokemon into a multiplayer MMO, showing the continued interest in a shared Pokemon world.
For now, the reported multi-region project remains unverified, and fans should treat the claims as speculation until an official announcement is made.
