Pokemon fans are being asked to pay as much as $200 for a Magikarp cat toy after the $29.99 Pokemon Center item quickly sold out.
The Magikarp Playful Partners Fishing Rod Cat Toy was released on June 11 as part of Pokemon Center’s first Playful Partners collection of toys, beds, clothing, and accessories made for pets.
Designed to resemble a fishing rod, the toy has a plush Magikarp dangling from the end of its line for cats to chase. Pokemon described it as a way to “rage-bait your cat,” playing on Magikarp’s status as the franchise’s Fish Pokemon.
The toy was originally available from Pokemon Center for $29.99 but is now listed as out of stock. Its official product page does not currently provide a date for a potential restock.
Magikarp cat toy repeatedly sells for over $100
The toy has since become a target for resellers, with numerous completed eBay listings showing prices far above its original $30 retail cost.
Dexerto found over a dozen sold listings for the Magikarp fishing rod toy. Ten were for brand-new standalone toys, while another was listed as pre-owned and one included a Pokemon Center bandana.
The new standalone toys were displayed at prices ranging from $85 to $129.99. Multiple sellers enabled Best Offers, meaning some buyers may have paid less than the price shown in eBay’s completed listings.
However, several toys were sold through Buy It Now without an offer. These included sales of $85, $89.99 and $99.99, confirming that buyers have repeatedly paid roughly three times the Pokemon Center price.
One completed listing displayed a price of $129.99, more than four times the toy’s original cost. A separate bundle containing the toy and a bandana sold for $120 on July 24.
Live listings are attempting to push the price even higher, with sellers asking between roughly $100 and $200 for unopened toys. There is no evidence in the available listings that a buyer has paid the full $200 asking price.
