Millions of British households face a wave of price increases from tomorrow in what has been dubbed "Awful April".
The exact amount extra that consumers will pay depends on where they live and their personal circumstances.
Despite some respite - including an increase in the minimum wage and a modest rise in most benefits - budgets are expected to be squeezed.
Most households in England will face the maximum council tax increase of 4.99 per cent.
The energy price cap set by Ofgem is rising by £111, taking the average annual bill to £1,849 for a typical household. This follows increases in energy market prices, up from £1,690 in April 2024.
Water bills for households in England and Wales are rising by an average of £10 a month from today.
The increase varies significantly depending on the water company.
Petrol and diesel car owners will pay £5 more in vehicle tax, taking the standard rate to £195. Electric vehicles will no longer be tax exempt, costing £10 in the first year.
The TV licence fee will increase by £5 to £174.50 from today and first-class stamps will rise by 5p to £1.70 from April 7.
Broadband and mobile customers will also face price hikes averaging £21.99 annually.
