CV NEWS FEED // Pope Francis has accepted the request of Indonesian Bishop Paskalis Bruno Syuker, who has asked not to be made a cardinal, according to an October 22 announcement by the Holy See Press Office.
Bishop Syuker’s request is “motivated by his wish to grow further in priestly life, in the service of the Church and the people of God,” the announcement states.
The acceptance comes shortly after Pope Francis included him among 20 other archbishops, bishops, priests, and a monsignor to be created cardinals.
According to Vatican News, Bishop Syuker, a member of the Order of Friars Minor, has served as Bishop of the Diocese of Bogor since 2013. From 2001 to 2009, then-Fr. Syuker served as Provincial of the Order of Friars Minor in Indonesia.
As CatholicVote previously reported, Pope Francis announced on October 6 the names of 21 new future cardinals. The now 20 future cardinals are set to be officially elevated to their position on December 8, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception.
