A popular influencer has died in a horrific accident after she was struck by two vehicles while crossing a major highway. 

Demaris D. Martinez, 28, died in the early hours of Saturday morning as she attempted to cross Route 17 in Paramus, New Jersey, on foot. 

Police responded to the scene after being called to reports of a pedestrian being struck at around 3:30am, they said she was hit by a car, and then a truck. 

Officials said she was initially hit by a white Kia driven by a 42-year-old man, and then a tractor-trailer driven by a 65-year-old man. 

Martinez, of Hillsdale, was popular on YouTube and Facebook, amassing nearly 50,000 followers on the latter.

Her content had revolved around beauty, lifestyle, travel and her Christian faith. She had also recently started making YouTube videos with her young son Kameron

Just days before her passing she had shared videos of herself dancing to her TikTok page.

She had previously opened up on her Instagram page that she had been victim of domestic abuse, sharing images of her bruised body. 

In a post from February of this year, she said she had found god and was also studying to be an attorney. 

According to Martinez, her faith had helped her overcome obstacles in her life. She was born and raised in Miami, Florida. 

Her followers have since been mourning her loss, leaving comments of sympathy on her social media pages.

One person posted: 'Demaris. Damn fly high baby girl', while another added: 'Rest in peace Demaris, will always remember your big smile at church.'

Another person also said: 'I can’t Believe this. Rest in the sweetest peace baby girl.' 

Local authorities including the Bergen County Sheriff's Bureau of Criminal Investigation are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident.
