A well-known Florida radio host who got in a painful e-bike crash said she chose not to wear a helmet 'because she did not want to mess up her hair,' according to a new report.
Candice Grey, the midday weekend host for the contemporary Christian radio network The Joy FM, was enjoying a bike ride with her husband, Andrew, and their children on May 16 when her electric bike suddenly hit a crack in the sidewalk, her station said in an Instagram post.
Grey was suddenly launched into the air, past her handlebars, and landed face-first on the pavement.
After being rushed to the hospital, she found out that she had broken her jaw on both sides, fractured her chin, and cracked her ear canal, the post read.
She got surgery for her injuries and spent seven days in the hospital.
But now, nearly three months since the frightening moment, Grey admitted to Fox 13 that she didn't wear a helmet that day because she was worried her hair would get ruined.
Grey has gone on to turn her poor choice into a lesson and wants others to learn from her mistake as well.
'When you're riding a regular bike, and you have an accident, you might get some road rash, or different things, but when you are going at speeds that a motorcycle would be going at, the damage can just be so much worse,' Grey told the outlet on Thursday.

'Motorcyclists wear a full-faced helmet, and that's just not the case for a lot of people riding e-bikes.'
Grey also noted that she is no stranger to riding e-bikes, stressing that accidents can happen to even the most experienced riders.
In the weeks following the incident, Grey shared images of her family being by her side and praying with her in the hospital, and images of her with a neck brace on, bandages on her face, and a sling on her arm.
She made her debut back in the office on June 16, according to a post shared by the station that showed Grey behind her desk with a small sling still on her arm.
The caption simply read: 'She’s back!!!'
Her story comes just as many children in her area, and across the country, are headed back to school.
The American Automobile Association (AAA) has urged both riders and drivers to share the road and be aware of their surroundings at all times.

The agency has also stressed the importance of wearing helmets.
Florida law mandates that e-bikes must have motors under 750 watts and working pedals.
Riders over the age of 16 are not legally required to wear a helmet in the state, according to Velotric.
