Everton are reportedly being put up for sale less than two years after being taken over by The Friedkin Group (TFG).

Barely 22 months after completing their takeover, the American investment group are said to be actively weighing up a complete sale of the Toffees, according to The Athletic.

Last month, it emerged TFG had been exploring the market for outside investment, initially targeting a minority stake deal to generate funds for the club's development.

While that route remains possible, the ownership group is now also seriously considering offloading a majority stake.

TFG, which also owns AS Cannes and Roma, acquired Farhad Moshiri's 94 per cent stake in the club,

Their arrival helped steer Everton clear of prolonged financial instability, with the ownership group credited with steadying the ship on Merseyside.

The American group are described as "completely happy" to retain ownership until a suitable opportunity presents itself.

Notably, TFG have indicated they would only relinquish control if "convinced" that prospective new owners could take the club to a higher level.

Supporters were left angered during the summer window with approximately £100million worth of playing talent departing the club.

The biggest exit saw Manchester City sign Iliman Ndiaye for £65million.

A proposed £40million transfer that would have taken Harrison Armstrong to Nottingham Forest was only prevented after fans staged a protest against the move.

Everton recorded a £25million net profit in the transfer market after a mediocre campaign last term that ended with a 13th-place finish in the Premier League.

Despite the upheaval off the pitch, Everton's on-field performances have offered cause for optimism this season.

The Toffees remain one of just five Premier League sides yet to taste defeat after the opening five fixtures of the campaign.

Two victories and three draws have left them in seventh place, sitting on the same points tally as Merseyside rivals Liverpool.

David Moyes' side look to maintain their unbeaten start against Hull City, who sit one place below them in the league.

The two teams meet at the MKM Stadium on Sunday, with kick-off at 2pm.
