CV NEWS FEED // Timothy P. Broglio, Archbishop of the Archdiocese for the Military Services and president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), issued a November 6 statement in response to the results of the 2024 U.S. presidential election.
Archbishop Broglio first congratulated President-elect Donald Trump and all elected officials at the national, state, and local levels.
“Now, we move from campaigning to governing,” the Archbishop said, noting that as citizens of a democracy, we can “rejoice in our ability to transition peacefully from one government to the next.”
The Archbishop reaffirmed the Catholic Church’s position of nonpartisanship, stating that the Church and the USCCB are not aligned with any political party.
He said regardless of who holds the presidency or the majority in Congress “the Church’s teachings remain unchanged.”
“We bishops look forward to working with the people’s elected representatives to advance the common good of all,” Archbishop Broglio added.
He emphasized, “As Christians, and as Americans, we have the duty to treat each other with charity, respect, and civility, even if we may disagree on how to carry out matters of public policy.”
The Archbishop requested prayers for President-elect Trump and all elected leaders, asking that they “rise to meet the responsibilities entrusted to them” in service to the nation.
“Let us ask for the intercession of our Blessed Mother, the patroness of our nation, that she guide to uphold the common good of all and promote the dignity of the human person,” he wrote, “especially the most vulnerable among us, including the unborn, the poor, the stranger, the elderly and infirm, and migrants.”
