Vahid Jalalzadeh, the Iranian foreign minister’s deputy for consular affairs has voiced deep sorrow over the killing of two Iranian nationals in a suspicious armed attack, allegedly motivated by racism, in France.
Offering condolences to the families of the two Iranian nationals, Jalalzadeh called on the relevant security and judicial authorities in France to pursue the matter seriously and provide transparent information on the case, the ministry’s website reported.
Referring to the measures by the Iranian embassy in Paris, Jalalzadeh said as soon as the embassy was informed of the death of the two Iranians in the armed crime, it contacted the French authorities, pursued the matter, and demanded the identification, prosecution, and punishment of the perpetrators of the crime.
He added that the Iranian Foreign Ministry has also contacted the French embassy in Tehran to underscore the need for a thorough judicial investigation, and prosecution of the perpetrator(s), the administration of justice, and the payment of blood money to the victims' families.
Jalalzadeh stressed that the Foreign Ministry is continuing its efforts with seriousness to carry out its duties and responsibilities to protect the rights of Iranian nationals abroad. He said in addition to facilitating the repatriation of the bodies of the two Iranian nationals to Iran, the Foreign Ministry will pursue the issue until all circumstances of the incident are clarified and justice is served.
On December 14, the two Iranians were killed in Loon-Plage near the city of Dunkirk in northern France. They were attacked and murdered with a firearm by an individual whose identity has not been disclosed despite having been taken into custody by police.
