A major ownership shakeup is reportedly underway, as Josh Kushner — the younger brother of Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner — and former Disney CEO Bob Iger prepare to purchase the Los Angeles Lakers.
ESPN reported August 12 that Kushner and Iger will invest a record-breaking $12 billion to seal the deal.
“As lifelong NBA fans, we are deeply honored for the opportunity to become stewards of the Los Angeles Lakers, one of the most iconic sports franchises in the world,” they said in a joint statement, according to ESPN. The Los Angeles Lakers are being sold to former Disney CEO Bob Iger and businessman Josh Kushner for $12 billion, per @espn.

Mark Walter, CEO and chairman of TWG Global, has been the majority owner of the legendary sports team since October 2025.

Walter nodded to the team by saying, “The Lakers belong to Los Angeles, and I have every confidence the best is still ahead.”
