Deciding which streaming services to subscribe to feels like an increasingly impossible task.

As more and more sites flood the market and subscription prices continue to rise, Americans may struggle to know which platforms offer the best TV shows and movies for their money.

A new study from NetCredit analyzed the top eight streaming services in order to calculate which platforms offer the best value.

While it found Netflix offers the best value for quality TV shows, Amazon Prime Video tops the ranking when it comes to new movies.

Disney+, meanwhile, has the highest proportion of top-rated movies, according to the study.

NetCredit, a personal loans company, focused on the top eight streamers in the US - Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Max, Prime Video, Apple TV, Peacock and Paramount+.

It also analyzed the Disney+ and Hulu bundle, which was launched in March.

The study recorded the new movies and TV series released on each platform between January 2023 and July 2024, as well as the IMDb user ratings associated with each title.

It then calculated each platform's value by working out the subscription cost per per newly released highly-rated title for 18 months of an ad-free plan.

Amazon Prime Video offers by far the best value for quality new movies, at an average of $1.95 per title, the study found.

Netflix offers the second-best value on movies, but the price difference compared to Prime Video is significant.

Netflix costs $4.81 per movie rated 7.5 or higher on IMDb, which is two and a half times the price of a top movie on Prime.

At the other end of the spectrum, Apple TV offers the worst value for money when it comes to highly-rated movies, the study found.

It is 23 times more expensive than Prime Video - costing $44.96 per quality title.

Max offers the second-worst value for money, at $30.58 per top-rated film.

When it comes to TV shows, Netflix takes the top spot for value-for-money, according to NetCredit.

Netflix subscribers only pay $2.21 for each highly-rated series, compared to $21.58 with Paramount+ - the worst-rated platform.

Prime Video took second place, at $2.25 per top TV show, while the Disney+ and Hulu bundle was ranked third, at $4.28 for each highly-rated series.

When it comes to the streamers with the highest proportion of quality content, Disney+ takes the top spot.

Not only does it have the highest proportion of top-rated movies - at 26 percent of new releases - but it also has the highest percentage of quality TV shows.

Since January 2023, 41.3 percent of series released on the platform have scored over 7.5 out of 10 on IMDb.

It comes as the competition between the major streaming services continues to heat up - causing many platforms to up their prices for customers.

In July, Paramount announced it was hiking the price of its streaming service, as it looks to boost falling profits.

Warner Bros. Discovery also angered customers earlier this year by raising the price of its ad-free Max subscription for the second time.

The $1 price rise to $16.99 a month for the ad-free tier took effect in June for new subscribers.
