What to See & Do
SUNDAY IN RIO
The MIMO Festival’s second free night opens at 6pm with DJ Machintal at the Circo Voador. Bianca Gismonti and Manuel de Oliveira follow at half past six.
Portuguese rapper Capicua performs with Emicida at 8pm, and Mali’s Tinariwen close the night at 10pm. Entry is free, by order of arrival, with capacity for about 2,000 people.
MIMO also screens Apopcalipse Segundo Baby, a documentary on Baby do Brasil, at Cine Santa Teresa at 8pm. Santa Teresa sits just above Lapa.
ArtRio 2026 ends today at the AXIA Marina da Glória, open from 2pm to 8pm. A 4pm panel brings together carnival artists Leonardo Bora, Gabriel Haddad and Leandro Vieira.
The Semana de Arte do Rio runs from 16 to 27 September, with more than 400 attractions at about 200 venues. Centro is the main hub, around Praça Mauá, Praça XV, Cinelândia and Lapa.
CCBB Rio shows Vik Muniz: A Olho Nu, billed as the largest retrospective of his work, until 12 October. Entry is free, and CCBB is open from 9am to 8pm except Tuesdays.
The Museu do Amanhã at Praça Mauá is open from 10am to 6pm, with last entry at 5pm. It closes on Wednesdays.
Rio Gastronomia fills the Jockey Club in Gávea from noon to 11pm, with more than 30 restaurants and a Ferris wheel. Tickets cost R$46 to R$100, about US$9 to US$19, and the wheel is extra.

Getting Around
TRANSPORT
A single metro journey costs R$7.90, about US$1.54, across Lines 1, 2 and 4. The state kept the fare unchanged from 12 April.
The beachfront avenues in Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon close to cars on Sundays as leisure areas. Expect detours on Avenida Atlântica, Vieira Souto and Delfim Moreira during the day.
The Aterro do Flamengo’s Avenida Infante Dom Henrique also becomes a Sunday leisure area. Allow extra time driving between Centro and the Marina da Glória.
Flamengo’s 6.30pm kick-off will crowd the Maracanã metro station before and after the match. The MIMO night ends late, so ride-hailing is the practical return from Lapa.

Where to Eat
LUNCH & DINNER
Rio Gastronomia is the easiest one-stop lunch, with more than 30 restaurants in one place at the Jockey Club. It opens at noon and runs until 11pm.
Lapa is the natural dinner choice before the MIMO shows at the Circo Voador. Eating before 8pm avoids the rush between sets.
Botafogo and Flamengo sit closest to the Marina da Glória for an early dinner after ArtRio. Booking ahead helps on a busy festival weekend.

Check INEA’s latest bathing bulletin before swimming, as ratings change from week to week. INEA advises staying out of the sea for 24 hours after rain and away from drain outlets.
The MIMO Festival needs no ticket, and entry stops when the Circo Voador reaches capacity. Arrive well before 8pm for Capicua and Emicida.
CCBB exhibitions are free, but tickets are issued at the box office or on ingressosccbb.com.br. CCBB is closed on Tuesdays.

The Ibovespa closed Friday at 185,229 points, down 0.41 percent on the day. It fell 1.06 percent over the week, ending a run of four weekly gains.
The commercial dollar rose 0.11 percent to R$5.144, according to Exame and InfoMoney. It gained close to 0.4 percent over the week.
Among the day’s movers, CSN fell 6.40 percent, while Minerva gained 4.46 percent.
The central bank’s Copom cut the Selic by 0.25 points to 13.75 percent on Wednesday. It was the fifth consecutive cut of that size.
The October election remains a key market driver. A Datafolha poll cited by Exame showed Lula at 46 percent and Flávio Bolsonaro at 44 percent in a runoff scenario.
