Romney on possible Trump retribution: ‘I would take him at his word’

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) said former President Trump should be taken seriously when he pledges to go after his political enemies if elected to another term in office.

“I think he has shown by his prior actions that you can take him at his word,” Romney told The Atlantic staff writer McKay Coppins in an interview published Tuesday.

“So, I would take him at his word,” he added.

The remarks followed a conversation in which, according to Coppins, it became clear Romney had spent some time thinking about Trump’s threats to direct the Department of Justice (DOJ) to go after his political opponents.

Romney, the 2012 Republican nominee for president, has during his time in the Senate bucked his own party on occasion and criticized the former president when he deemed it appropriate. In 2020, he became the first senator to vote to convict an impeached president of his own party. In 2021, after Trump was impeached for the second time, six other Republican senators joined him in voting to convict Trump.

I hope everyone can take him at his word, as he didn’t say anything about going after political enemies, but said he was going after the criminals.

I suspect Willard is somewhat concerned about his son’s gig with Burisma.

Willard is still butt hurt from how Trump had him groveling at his feet for the Secretary of State job in his administration and then punked him on it.

I think he promised to go after law breakers. That Venn diagram basically overlays his political enemies so it is probably a distinction without a difference.

The 80s called, Mitt. They want their foreign policy back.

My favorite picture of Romney captures the expressions on both his and Trump’s faces as Romney leaves an obviously unsuccessful job interview with Trump.

Priceless.

Romney is searching for respect in all the wrong places.

This article is completely invalid. Trump is not going after the likes of Romney, he's going for the corrupt FIB, and the likes of Comey, Stroke and McCabe. Romney thinks a little too highly of himself.

Retribution?

Trump is interested in law and order

If that happens to fall on someone who went after Trump under false pretenses then that same BS reasoning get put onto Trump’s motivations?

That is so sick. These sick people are in charge

How can ANYONE in their right mind not want Trump back in?

So keeping your word is in Romney’s opinion a negative?

"Willard is still butt hurt from how Trump had him groveling at his feet for the Secretary of State job in his administration and then punked him on it."

Bishop Morscum thought he had it made and had plans to hamstring Trump the moment he sat down at SoS.

Romney ought to be one of the first to appear before a TrumpII Article III domestic tribunal and be given the choice of Imprisonment or the revival of the Roman rite of Exile.

Permanent. Loss. Of. US. Citizenship. Escorted to FederalEx planes fueled up and waiting to permanently transport him and his family to whatever country that will have them, with the sure promise of eternal US tracking of their domicile abroad, and rapid arrest and the serving of a full sentence if they ever set foot on US soil anywhere again in their lifetimes.

Hey communist hill. He did not pledge to go after his political enemies. He said he would go after criminals who used their power to commit crimes. If Trump goes after someone then will be a real crime involved. Unlike what the left is doing to him.

I believe Trump said his best revenge would be American success. I take him at his word, too!

To: ChicagoConservative27

Wonder how many people would say that about Mr. Romney.

I utterly despise Romney and I’m a 1,000% Trumper. BUT, I will not support “going after” just ANYBODY (like the human debris of Biden’s inner circle love to do).

IF and ONLY IF they have a rock solid and SIGNIFICANT case against some low life democrat, I will support an EFFECTIVE prosecution in a real court with a fair and balanced judge.

Notwithstanding any of the foregoing, I have no doubt there are marxists and RINO’s that have broken significant laws and that SHOULD BE prosecuted.

Fear, lies and delusions. That’s all they have. It would be quite an amazing experiment to live in Mutt’s head for one short hour. What could possibly drive this Clown? Military industrial complex dough?
