The National Prayer Service at the Washington National Cathedral Tuesday was a disgrace to mainstream Americans. Still, it opened up an avenue for President Donald Trump to right this wrong.
Episcopalian Bishop Mariann Budde had a chance to showcase America’s Christian identity. Instead, she turned her 15-minute sermon into a promotion of left-wing orthodoxy, which was unequivocally denounced by the American people when they reelected Trump on Nov. 5. We voted to bring back normalcy and sanity. Budde’s sermon was the opposite.

“Let me make one final plea, Mr. President,” Budde said. “Millions have put their trust in you. And as you told the nation yesterday, you have felt the providential hand of a loving God. In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now. There are gay, lesbian, and transgender children in Democratic, Republican, and independent families, some who fear for their lives.” (ROOKE: Vance Has The Power To Do Something For America No Other VP Has Ever Been Able To Accomplish)
“The people who pick our crops and clean our office buildings; who labor in poultry farms and meat packing plants; who wash the dishes after we eat in restaurants and work the night shifts in hospitals, they may not be citizens or have the proper documentation. But the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals. They pay taxes and are good neighbors,” she continued.
“I ask you to have mercy, Mr. President, on those in our communities whose children fear that their parents will be taken away,” Budde added.
It was an ambush. Budde knew the world would be watching. She knew this would be played on every nightly news channel across the globe, and she took her chance to chastise the president and, through him, the American people for their views, which ran antithetical to her far-left faith.
She wanted the celebrity status that the left gives those who are willing to debase themselves in the name of mocking Trump or his supporters. And that is what she got. Her tantrum won her a spot on The View on Wednesday, where the women greeted her with open arms and congratulated her on her anti-Trump fit.
Yesterday, I joked that Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde’s sermon at the National Prayer Service was more like a screed you’d see on The View. So fittingly enough, today Bishop Budde literally went onto The View, where she told Joy Behar that her moralizing lecture in support of open… https://t.co/l2HctGi8VI pic.twitter.com/OlW45C1DRA

To put it mildly, Trump was displeased with her condescending “sermon.” In a Truth Social post early Wednesday morning, he called Budde a “Radical Left hard-line Trump hater” who “brought her church into the World of politics in a very ungracious way.” (ROOKE: Trump Sticks Knife Into Architects Of America’s Decline – Right To Their Faces)
“She was nasty in tone, and not compelling or smart,” Trump said. “Apart from her inappropriate statements, the service was a very boring and uninspiring one. She is not very good at her job! She and her church owe the public an apology!”

Budde humiliated herself and America. Where is her compassion for the families who the disastrous economic and fatal consequences of illegal immigration have destroyed? Does she also not see ruined lives left in the wake of the parasitic transgender ideology? Americans deserve more than an apology. Trump should teach the left a lesson by changing the venue.
The left might control her and the hallowed Washington National Cathedral, but they don’t control where the National Prayer Service takes place.
Future “national” prayer services should be held in churches that don’t promote the demonic transgender extremist abuse of children. pic.twitter.com/VpGmuBa3vf

Our nation’s capital is home to some of the most beautiful churches in America, including the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. His wife, First Lady Melania Trump, and Vice President JD Vance are both Catholic. Not only would the National Shrine be a gorgeous location that highlights America’s national Christian heritage, but it would feel like home to the people closest to him in the fight against the woke mob.
Never again should we allow the radical left the authority to control the narrative or shape policy. The Trump administration has a duty to protect the American people from those who would use their power as a bat to cudgel our country to death.
