A woman who claims Russell Brand raped her in a toilet cubicle said he had a “weird, maniacal grin…like a clown” when he allegedly grabbed her breasts at a bar in Soho, central London.

A video of a police interview with the woman was played at Southwark Crown Court on Monday.

Jurors heard the alleged attack took place at a birthday party in Nordic Bar, Soho, during the summer of 2004.

The woman says she told Mr Brand, who was hosting Big Brother’s spin-off show Big Mouth at the time, “I really like Big Brother... I think you’re really funny on it” while they were standing at the bar.

But “within one minute of talking” to the woman, she said Mr Brand grabbed her breasts with both hands.

“From one minute it was a normal conversation; there wasn’t any sexual flirting or anything like that. It was a normal conversation about him being on Big Brother,” she told officers.

Jurors heard her tell police: “He just moved toward me and grabbed both my boobs really quickly and then sort of let go and he then grabbed my arm and just pulled me.”

“I remember his big grin and it was like a clown,” she told officers.

Officers heard Mr Brand then allegedly “dragged” the woman into the toilets, who was in her 20s at the time.

She told officers Mr Brand orally raped her while they were locked inside the toilet cubical.

She said she tried to push him off and asked him: “What are you doing? I don’t want this.”

But he allegedly told her "Come on, come on, don’t be a spoilt sport" and continued “pushing” her head down.

“I just remember I felt like a force, and every time I tried to move away, he was strong; it was forcing me back,” she told officers.

After the alleged attack, she said she asked: "Can I go now?" But she said her hands were shaking and she could not unlock the door before alleging “Russell casually walked over and unlocked (the door)".

She said he was acting “completely normal” before saying: “I guess we should swap numbers now.”

She claimed he went back into the bar and spoke with a different “group of girls”.

“He was very much normal, just acting like nothing had happened,” she said.

The woman claimed when she was trying to find her friends in the bar, she was “steered into a car” with Mr Brand sitting next to her.

She told officers the car drove off and “I just felt this nudge…and I looked round and he had his penis out again in the car".

“He said ‘come on, come on’ and I said ‘no, no’, and he then put it away,” she told officers before allegedly getting out of the car.

“He took ‘no’ for an answer then.”

After the alleged attack, jurors heard she was “in a daze” and “in shock" and felt “numb” and "ashamed".

She choked back tears as she recounted the alleged attack to officers, telling them: “I was denying it to myself for so long... this really happened to me; I was raped."

Mr Brand strongly denies the allegations against him. He has pleaded not guilty to three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault, and one count of indecent assault.

Cross-examining, Ian Winters KC questioned the woman on how much she had drunk on the night of the alleged rape.

She told jurors, while sitting behind a screen: “I wasn't drunk, where I don't remember, or I wasn't in control of how I spoke, how I presented myself. I wasn't paralytic.”

Mr Winters suggested the woman “happily accompanied Mr Brand into the lavatory” and asked why she did not leave.

The woman replied: “When someone is towering over you, dragging you really hard, and within seconds you’re locked in a room with them, when you’re small, it's hard to get away from them.”

Winters asked why she did not “shout” for help.

“I can’t recall,” the woman replied, to which the defence suggested it was because she was “charmed” by Mr Brand.

“I wasn’t charmed in the slightest,” she replied.

The trial continues.
