A retired US military officer has issued a stark warning about the growing risk of nuclear war, criticising what he called "stupid decisions" by the Biden administration in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Lt Col. Daniel Davis told GBN America that senior American officials were dangerously dismissive of nuclear threats from Russia.
His comments come as tensions escalate following Russia's deployment of a new experimental ballistic missile against Ukraine, and President Biden's recent authorisation for Ukraine to conduct long-range strikes into Russian territory.
Davis urged officials to remember the devastating lessons from Hiroshima and Nagasaki when considering nuclear risks.
"There's General Jack Keane. A couple of days ago, on Fox News, literally laughed on camera and said, Can you imagine that Putin is going to do anything nuclear, especially before Trump comes into office?" Davis told GBN America.
He expressed particular concern about senior American officials, including retired four-star generals, appearing on television to dismiss nuclear threats.

The escalation follows Biden's decision to authorise Ukraine to use US-supplied ATACMS missiles for strikes within Russia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called the Russian missile attack "a clear and severe escalation" and urged a strong global response.
NATO spokesperson Farah Dakhlallah said the deployment would "neither change the course of the conflict nor deter NATO allies from supporting Ukraine."
Davis expressed hope that the incoming Trump administration would handle nuclear risks more carefully.

"I certainly hope that nobody in the Biden administration in the last two months forgets that incredible risk," he told GBN America.
He noted that some members of the incoming Trump administration are "very, very sharply familiar with the risks that are involved."
The retired officer warned that current escalations could have severe consequences.
"The bottom line to your answer yes, there is reason to worry if we keep taking stupid decisions," Davis concluded.
The warnings come as both sides intensify military efforts ahead of Trump's inauguration on 20 January.
