California’s border entry to Mexico was partly locked down on Thursday as protesters created a human blockade.

Southbound vehicle access from San Diego to Tijuana was shut by teachers on the Mexican side blocking the roads.

Border agents were redirecting traffic from I5 and Freeway 805 toward the Otay Mesa Port of Entry.

The California Highway Patrol also issued a SigAlert at 10.30 a.m.

The CHP’s border communications center said: “San Ysidro Port of Entry into Mexico is closed. I-805 SB traffic is being diverted off at San Ysidro Blvd. I-5 SB traffic is being diverted off at Via De San Ysidro. Please avoid the area.”

In an update it said San Ysidro Blvd on-ramp to I-805 SB, SR-905 EB connector to I-805 SB and SR-905 WB connector to I-805 SB were still closed as of 12pm.

It mirrors a blockade in March when teachers calling for better wages and pensions also shut down the entry point.
