Sideral Cinema has boarded the buzzy Spanish feature project “Three Summer Days,” joining Nexus CreaFilms – producers of Berlin Panorma winner “Deaf,” bringing together two of the most influential names in Spanish cinema to back the compelling debut feature of director Álvaro López Alba.
“Three Summer Days” delves into the complexities of family relationships during a brief but intense period at the beach. The story follows Cris, who has fallen in love with a boy while her friendship with Miri deteriorates; Dani, who feels lonely, pines after Miri, and seeks refuge in video games; and José, the father of the two teenagers, whose current relationship is in jeopardy for reasons unknown to him but apparent to everyone else. Over the course of three days, this family attempts to reconnect amidst growing secrets, jealousies, insecurities and miscommunication.
The film is currently in an advanced stage of development, with a strong version of the script ready after being refined at some of Spain’s most prestigious labs. With the support of Sideral Cinema, the team aims to complete financing during 2025 and begin shooting by the summer of 2026.
It is now bound for this week’s Malaga Film Festival, where it will be presented in its early industry centerpiece, the MAFF co-production forum.
López expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, telling Variety, “After these years developing the project with Nexus, it was important to include partners who understood it and believed in it with the same enthusiasm, and that is what we have found in Sideral. We move forward with great enthusiasm and confidence that this project will soon become a reality.”
Nuria Landete from Sideral echoed the filmmaker’s sentiment, stating, “From Sideral we want to support a project that we fell in love with since we discovered it at the ECAM Incubator, and Álvaro in his directorial debut. It is a pleasure to join Nuria Muñoz and Eva Libertad at Nexus, who are living such a beautiful year with ‘Deaf’.”
Nuria Muñoz from Nexus added, “We are very pleased with the incorporation of Sideral on the project, not only for all that it contributes from the production side, but also for having the solid support of the distributor and the sales house already at this stage.”
Sideral is a dynamic and diverse film distribution and production company dedicated to bringing unique and emotionally resonant projects to audiences. Its portfolio includes acclaimed titles like “Black Butterflies” or “Saturn Return” and showcases a blend of classic auteur cinema and emerging talents.
With such strong backing and a promising storyline, “Three Summer Days” is set to be a standout addition to the Spanish film landscape and a welcome addition to Sideral’s growing catalog.
