KOTA BARU - A statutory rape case involving an underaged girl has been reported at a temporary evacuation centre in Malaysia during the floods on Dec 2, reports Malay language daily Sinar Harian.
Kelantan police chief Mohd Yusoff Mamat said that the incident, which occurred at 12.30am on Dec 2, involved a 15-year-old girl and a 23-year-old male suspect, who is a construction worker.
“The victim and the suspect reportedly met at the relief centre and are believed to have committed the heinous act in a school storeroom.
“The incident was discovered by the girl’s brother, after which the family lodged a police report,” Sinar Harian quoted Mr Yusoff saying at the Kelantan police contingent headquarters on Dec 20.
Following the report, the suspect was arrested on Dec 6 and remanded for six days to assist in the investigation.
“On Dec 12, the suspect was charged at the Kota Baru Sessions Court with rape under Section 376 of the Penal Code and pleaded not guilty.
“The court set the case for mention on Jan 14, and no bail was offered,” he added.
Mr Yusoff also told Sinar Harian that besides the rape case, six other criminal incidents were reported during the recent floods, including four house break-ins, one vehicle theft, and one molestation case.
“Three house break-ins, one vehicle theft, and one molest case occurred in Tumpat.
“Another house break-in was reported in Pasir Mas,” he said. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
