Savannah Guthrie took center stage on the Today show just hours after it was revealed that an anonymous tipster claimed that the anchor's missing mother was buried somewhere in Mexico near the US border.

Guthrie, 54, was business as usual during the Friday broadcast despite the unsettling news.

An anonymous caller told Mexican nonprofit Buscando Corazones that searchers could find a body matching Nancy Guthrie's description in the woods of Mariposa, within an area where the group already discovered dozens of unmarked graves.

The tip came in on Wednesday, the group's leader Ramona Guadalupe Ayala Ortiz told KPNX-Arizona.

A subsequent search that day failed to find the missing 84-year-old.

Ortiz said the same caller previously reported a similar tip that Nancy was buried in a nearby stream while describing clothing or characteristics they said searchers would be able to use to verify that they had found the right person.

A May 16 search also yielded nothing, Ortiz said.

On Thursday, cops in Arizona said they were 'aware' of the reports.

Savannah Guthrie appeared on Today this Friday after an anonymous tipster's claim that mother Nancy was buried somewhere in Mexico

An anonymous caller told Mexican nonprofit Buscando Corazones that searchers could find a body matching the senior's description in the Mariposa area, near the border with Arizona. Members are seen carrying out a separate search in the region on May 16

'At this time, we have not been contacted by Mexican authorities,' the Pima County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

'This investigation remains active and ongoing, and we will continue to follow up on any credible information.'

NBC News declined to comment on the reports on Thursday.

Guthrie stayed on the air for the full two hours.

Nogales police are set to accompany the search group for another search scheduled for June 16, Ortiz said. However, they are not involved in any investigation, she added.

Photos obtained by TMZ showed some of the team's search efforts.

The search is focusing on terrain signs such as disturbed soil, burn marks and remote stream beds, Ortiz said.

'We have hope that we will find it,' she said of the site described by the tipster, who she said sounded like a male.

The nonprofit helps locate missing persons. They uncovered unmarked graves in the area last month

Guthrie's mother was last seen at her home in Tucson, Arizona, on January 31. The anchor stepped away for the first several months of the search.

She has since returned to Studio 1A, where she continues to put on a brave face.

'I cry every morning on the way to work,' Guthrie, 54, tearfully told cohost Jenna Bush Hager on Monday while filling in for the show's third hour.

'Like so many people out there, you can hold all of these things together. I tell that to my kids, too,' she tearfully told viewers.

'We can hold our sadness and we can hold our joy and if you don't believe it, just watch me. I'm going to show you.'
