  • Strategy bought 4,603 BTC for $369.7M, lifting its holdings to 845,050 BTC.
  • Saylor said Strategy reached 0.0% net leverage and holds $6.71B in USD assets.

Saylor Delivers on ‘We’re Back’ With 4,603-Bitcoin Purchase

The Nasdaq-listed company acquired the bitcoin at an average price of $80,318 per coin, according to Saylor’s announcement Monday, Aug. 31. The purchase brings Strategy’s total holdings to 845,050 BTC, reinforcing its position as the largest publicly traded corporate holder of bitcoin.

The announcement followed Saylor’s “We’re ₿ack” post Sunday, a familiar weekend signal that another Strategy purchase could be coming. Monday’s disclosure confirmed the company had returned to the market with nearly $370 million in fresh bitcoin buying.

“Strategy has acquired 4,603 BTC for $370M, increased USD Cash by $29M, and repurchased $152M of STRC. As of 8/30/26, we hold 845,050 BTC and $6.71B of USD Assets, bringing Net Leverage to 0.0%,” Saylor wrote on X.

Strategy Pairs Bitcoin Buy With $152M STRC Repurchase

The transaction was not limited to bitcoin. Strategy also increased its U.S. dollar cash position by $29 million and repurchased $152 million of STRC, one of the preferred securities the company uses as part of its increasingly complex capital structure.

Saylor also explained that Strategy now has a $5.10 billion U.S. dollar reserve and $1.61 billion in cash. He added that the moves improved the company’s U.S. dollar duration to four years, up 23 days, while STRC’s BTC credit fell 3 basis points to 56 basis points.

“These actions further strengthen STRC. USD Reserve is $5.10B and USD Cash is $1.61B, improving USD Duration to 4.0 yrs (+23d) and STRC’s BTC Credit to 56 bps (-3 bps),” Saylor said.

Strategy’s 2020 Bitcoin Bet Becomes Its Defining Business

The purchase extends a transformation that began in August 2020, when the company, then known as Microstrategy, spent $250 million on 21,454 BTC. Saylor argued at the time that holding bitcoin offered protection against the long-term erosion of purchasing power in cash.

That initial trade became the centerpiece of the company’s financial strategy. Strategy subsequently tapped equity markets and debt instruments to finance additional bitcoin purchases, steadily turning what had been a business-intelligence software company into a publicly traded vehicle heavily exposed to Bitcoin.

Saylor stepped down as CEO in 2022 and became executive chairman, allowing him to concentrate on the bitcoin strategy while Phong Le took control of day-to-day operations. The company formally rebranded as Strategy in February 2025 and adopted a bitcoin-inspired orange identity.

845,050 BTC Puts Strategy’s Treasury on a Different Scale

The latest acquisition raises Strategy’s holdings from roughly 840,447 BTC to 845,050 BTC, representing about 4% of Bitcoin’s maximum 21 million-coin supply. It is by far the largest bitcoin public treasury on earth. That concentration makes every large Strategy purchase closely watched by bitcoin traders, corporate treasury managers and investors in MSTR and the company’s preferred securities.

The next focus will be whether Saylor keeps buying after Monday’s $370 million transaction. Strategy’s expanded cash reserves and 0.0% net leverage leave investors watching its next capital-market moves, additional BTC purchases and any further STRC repurchases as September begins. Bitcoin’s price remained unfazed by the purchase and stood at around $78,450 per coin after the announcement.
